uploading files through console

Download as PDF

I decided to spend my vacation without access to internet, only wife, children, beach and windsurfing. I succeeded, September 3rd was the first day, after 3 weeks of my vacation, when I opened my mail box. Sorry for the delay in replying for your emails.

Last time I was asked about a procedure how to upload files through console port. The procedure is simple and I will try to show it in this post. Taking Huawei’s S3300 switch as an example I will show you how to upload file through console port, upgrading bootrom at the same time. Notice that uploading files by console is very slow and it is better to use it only for small files, unless you do not have any other choice.

Please use HyperTerminal to upload files by console port.

Power on the switch and enter into bootrom mode by pressing CTRL+B (default password huawei):

      Hi,
It looks like there is no enough space in the flash. Maybe some files were moved to trash instead of deleted permanently and occupy memory. It is difficult to find the reason if I don’t have access to this CX. I don’t even have such device to check it. It should be possibility to format flash. If there is no such command (format flash or delete files from flash) in bootrom menu, you can try to type CTRL_F. But this is the final solution. If that is production device, you will also loose its configuration. If you have support from Huawei or its partner, just ask them for help. They will be able to solve this problem locally.

You can try to upload software by ftp using ethernet cable. If this device has management port you only need to set ftp parameters in bootrom plus IP on your pc. I wrote how to do this long time ago on this blog.

Now you have some old version of bootrom menu. Try to type a short, for example CTRL_Z. Such short extends bootrom menu in S5300. Or upload bootrom file to flash by serial interface and upgrade main bootrom.

Probably the bootrom is included in the software file. Did you try to use CTRL_Z shortcut? From this bootrom menu it should be possible to download the new software. Try to use other shortcuts with CTRL… That’s why I suggested to contact Huawei or its partner to solve this problem. Anyway I cannot share any software as Huawei is software owner, not me.
